Hi Hi everyone….
This is my first time blogging.Haha.
Well…Last Saturday was my first visit to the Singapore Girls home. It’s a new experience for me as I had never done any volunteering activities involving youths. I was excited but also feeling a bit nervous while meeting my 2 girls. I was afraid that they may not open up to me or I may have difficulty communicating with them. Haha. But to my surprise, my girls and I actually hit off quite well. They are friendly and humorous. I also get to know that they enjoy channel 8 drama a lot even though mandarin is not their mother tongue language. Of course there were times where we have no topics to talk of and we are just staring and smiling at each other. Then we started playing UNO which eliminates the awkwardness. But on a whole, I enjoyed my first session with them. Hope that my sessions with my girls will continue to be fun.
Looking forward to the next session on sat:)
Elynda
HEY!!!!!!!!
Call me noob, I used 10 mins to figure out how to use a wordpress. hahahahha…. Well, it’s the third year going for volunteering at Youth Girls’. That’s not very long, nor is it very short. These few years, I learnt loads of stuff. Of course, it includes how to talk crap~~~(Elynda, you’ll be a master of this if you continue volunteering! ) hahahahhaa… BUT volunteering at the Girls Home is so much more than just learning how to talk crap. It’s also about building relationships, having fun, opening your <3 to others and living life to the fullest! What’s life without girls’ talk? You get a dose of it at Youth Girls, every saturday, 3 to 5pm, rain or shine. (I sound like I’m advertising~~~) Well, I joined Girls Home with little expectations, I joined, because my friend joined. These 3 years, there’s ups and downs, sometimes, the girls disappoint, sometimes, you disappoint yourself and sometimes, the admin just gets you down. BUT I stayed on, and I’m glad I did. I want to do this till my teeth all drop off, if the girls don’t mind a crazy old woman as a volunteer hahahahahahhaha…….
XOXO Geraldine (how do you publish this thing?!)
Haha Geraldine, you’re a joker!
Anyway, it’s my turn to write an entry! Hmmm the first Girl’s home session for 2010 started on a fabulous note! We had our first talk (some already had several) with our girl(s). For me, it has been heartwarming walk this journey with my previous girl, and seeing her being discharged and finally knowing what she wants to do in life. In last week’s session, my new girl wrote me a card saying how she hopes I will come every Saturday. It feels nice to know that you can make a difference in someone’s life in a positive way!
